Zinio is a suite of applications for various operating system platforms developed by a company of the same name. The app (as well as its web-based application) serves a digital reader for various publications that release electronic versions of their titles periodically.
The distribution service is available as a web application that can be accessed through a Web browser. At the same time, official software applications for various operating systems like Android, iOS, and Windows 8, can be downloaded without incurring any financial charge from their respective app stores.
Once downloaded and installed, users can then subscribe to feeds provided by various publishers. Human readers can select which feeds are downloaded by choosing from a list of publishers, which are loaded from the app itself.
Once the user subscribes to a feed, he/she then receives updated content regularly when his/her device is connected to the Internet. In addition, downloaded content can be viewed later – even when the device is offline.
The app has a section called Explore, where hired editors curate free content regularly. Most of the featured articles shown in the Explore newsstand are free, while others are offered at deeply discounted rates.
Another section called Shop allows users to browse premium titles that are sorted by category. Readers can filter their search for a particular title by narrowing down search results by genre, keyword, or category.
