Warzone 2100

Warzone 2100 Project (Open Source)

Warzone 2100 is a real-time strategy (RTS) game in full 3D, with focus on arms (assists from sensors can help artillery fire from huge distances), technology (for weapons advancements), in-game updates, research (to acquire new technologies), and design systems (for choices in bodies, propulsions, and weapons). The game was originally released for Microsoft Windows and PlayStation and is now a proprietary commercial game.

In the story, the world’s civilizations in the 21st century were wiped out, blamed on malfunctions in the defense system. Several survivor groups later wanted to rebuild the world using pre-war technology. The player belongs to a group called “The Project” which sends out teams (Alpha, Beta, and Gamma) to gather technology to help in the reconstruction. They are attacked by another survivor group, the New Paradigm, which has more advanced firepower and controlled by a self-aware computer program called Nexus. With the defeat of the group (and another called The Collective), the battles escalate until finally all three teams fight off Nexus who is bent on world destruction.

Every level of Warzone 2100 (except the 1st and last) has a time limit. There are three areas of terrain where the battles are fought. Each level of battle progression expands the terrain. In missions without time limits, the player can use traditional RTS tactics.
