Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne is an expansion pack for Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos, an adventure game developed by Blizzard. In addition to the features of Reign of Chaos, The Frozen Throne introduces two new races, five new heroes, and new units for every race. Shops can now be built and sea units have been brought back in the game. The game's main story follows Illidan, as he tries to defeat the Lich King. It also follows Arthas, the once human turned Undead, as he becomes the Lich King himself. A stand-alone campaign features Thrall, the Orc warchief as he tries to build a kingdom named after his father.
The weapon system in Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne has been improved. Majority of in-game units have their weapons altered. The armor system has also been improved. The weapons now have effectivity and ineffectivity against armors. For example, a weapon maybe effective over one armor and be ineffective against another. Concerning resources, the game has increased the food limit to 100. Previously, the game’s food limit was set to 90. Requirements for upkeep have also been reduced. This leads players to have the capacity to build larger armies.
The game also has new races. The first one is “the Naga” which is available in 3 campaigns. The second addition,” the Draenei”, is available in the Blood Elf campaign.
