Tropico 4 is a single-player management and construction simulation game that focuses on simulation of building a city. The game was released in 2011. The game’s story follows the life of El Presidente as he tries to restore his power in the Caribbean. The storyline is portrayed in three acts.
At the beginning of the game, the player chooses a map to play in. There are 10 maps in the game. However, there is also a Random Island option where the player can choose an random island and customize its game parameters. After selecting an island, the player may now select his/her avatar. The avatar may be customized as well. After every mission, the current traits of the avatar will be upgraded.
The campaign is composed of 20 missions. The player must surpass different issues in the island (i.e. natural disasters, political factions, social issues and others). If the player needs help, he/she can consult on a council of minister. The player must also make sure that the Tropicans (citizens in Tropico 4) are always satisfied based on their needs, happiness, thoughts, political ideology and skills. One of the main elements in the game is the factions. There are several factions in Tropico 4 (e.g. Capitalists, Intellectuals, Communists, etc…). These factions also affect the demands of Tropicans; thus, affecting the player’s strategy.
