Tomahawk

Christian Muehlhaeuser (Freeware)

Tomahawk is a music player designed to play a number of different audio formats, including MP3, WMV, and 3GP. When the program is launched, it locates all of the songs on the computer and lists them on the tab labeled "My Collection". This is a onetime scan but the user can have it redone, especially when new music has been added.

Users can play the songs by simply selecting the audio track and then pressing the "Play" button. Standard playback functions are available, such as forwarding to the next song and going to the previous track. The user's playlists are all listed on the left portion of the interface. The left pane also displays the previously played songs by the user.

Tomahawk can be used not only to play songs but also to stream music from websites such as Spotify and Grooveshark. This is possible through the installation of the plug-ins, or “revolvers” for the streaming websites. Users can find out the source of the audio track through the icon displayed on its right side. Another unique feature of Tomahawk is its integration with popular social networking sites, like Facebook and Twitter. The user can share the song straight from the interface to the social networking site.
