Sacred is an action role-playing video game developed by Ascaron and published by Encore. It was initially released in 2004. The game is set in a fictional continent called Ancaria where six different races (i.e. wood elf, dark elf, gladiator, vampire, etc…) live and have their own separate missions. The storyline follows the story of the chosen hero character as he tries to find Ancaria’s five elements in order to defeat the demon, Sakkara.
At the start of the game, players can choose which race to play. Each race starts at a different location of Ancaria with each of them having its own separate starting quest. For instance, the Dark Elf begins his quest on a cliff accompanied by a Wood Elf while Seraphim’s quest begins in a church. Each race also has its own set of skills and a limited set of items to carry. Players can increase their character’s skill levels by finding runes that correspond to each race’s special skills. Aside from skill level, runes can also be used to craft or trade. The game offers a wide range of items obtainable from various containers and shops. Items can also be located in hiding places or by killing monsters. Most items can also be used by one type of race. For instance, wings can only be used by a Seraphim. Potions like health heal are also available.
