Heiko Sommerfeldt (Freeware)

PhonerLite is an application that allows users to use their computers for communicating with other users through phone calls. The requirements for using the program are speakers, a microphone, and a sound card. The computer must be connected to the Internet in order for the application to function. The program’s interface is simple and intuitive. It is divided into different sections. A number pad is located at the upper left side of the window. This can be used to dial the destination number. The upper portion of the screen also shows the number dialed, the duration of the call, and the codec used. The microphone and speaker levels can also be changed on the right side of the window.

The lower part of the main window has different tabs including Server, User, Network, Codecs, Certificate, and Sound. This is where users can configure the settings of the application. To add contacts to the program, users can import their address book from Microsoft Outlook. The program also has other basic features of a telephone including answering machine, support for multiple calls, three-party conference call, and message waiting indication. Other key features of the program are sending of messages to mobile phones, text-to-speech support, and many others.
