Painkiller is a first-person shooter video game program developed by People Can Fly and published by DreamCatcher Interactive. It was originally released on April 12, 2004. The program features two game modes – Single-player and Multiplayer. The game has several expansions including Painkiller: Resurrection, Painkiller: Overdose, Painkiller: Recurring Evil, Painkiller: Redemption and Painkiller: Battle out of Hell. There are also several editions for this video game. These are the Gold/Black Edition, Special Edition, Collection, Pandemonium Edition, Lite Edition and Universe/Triple Dose.

Painkiller emphasizes on killing monsters. There are five chapters in the game with each chapter having another five levels. The goal of the player is to complete each level from beginning till end by killing hundreds of monsters. For each level, there are different art styles and themes including monasteries, castles, Venice, graveyards, opera house and more. There are also five boss monsters for each level. An option for the player to complete special task is also available. Doing this allows the player to get a tarot card, a difficult to get bonus. This bonus allows the player to get special weapons and power ups.

These are the main goals for the single player mode. However, for the multiplayer mode, there are classic modes like capture-the-flag and death match games.
