OpenOffice.org Writer is a word processor program included in the OpenOffice software package along with OpenOffice Impress and OpenOffice Calc. This program contains features similar to Microsoft Office Word where users can type in text, symbols, numeric characters, and add graphic elements to their documents. OpenOffice.org Writer can also be used to export documents through e-mail, Portable Document Format, or a printed document. Users can save their OpenOffice.org Writer documents into the following formats: OASIS Open Document Format 1.1, MS Word’s DOC, DOCX, RTF, and XHTML.
OpenOffice.org Writer contains various text-editing features that enable users to change the font style, font size, font color, text positioning, paragraph formatting, margins, and other page attributes. Aside from text elements, this program also has built-in drawing tools that allow users to create various lines, shapes, and other graphic elements. Users can also set the paper size, the page layout, choose a frame, tables, and headers. In addition to these, OpenOffice.org Writer has a built in wizard that guides users in creating standard documents such as letters, fax messages, agendas, newsletters, and minutes. OpenOffice.org Writer also has built-in dictionary and auto correct features that enable users to check the grammar of the document’s text body, and an auto complete feature that allows users to type words faster.
