OALD 8 or Oxford Advanced Learning Dictionary 8 is a program developed by Paragon Software Group. This program is a digital version of the Oxford English Dictionary that can be installed and accessed in a computer. Oxford Advanced Learning Dictionary 8 provides dictionary features that enable users to look up the meaning of words as well as thesaurus functions that provide synonyms and antonyms of words. This program also provides a similar format to traditional dictionaries. Users can view whether the word query is a noun, verb, adjective, or adverb, and view how the word is pronounced by phonetic symbols and syllables. Oxford Advanced Learning Dictionary 8 also provides sample sentences that assist users to determine how words are used according to context. In addition to these, Oxford Advanced Learning Dictionary 8 provides a database that includes 184,500 words, phrases, and definitions in the modern English language as well as 57,000 synonyms and antonyms. The program database also provides 83,000 word collocations and help notes to assist users in grammar, and usage in British and American English.

Oxford Advanced Learning Dictionary 8 features a simple user interface that has three main parts. The first part is the main command panel that contains viewing options, the settings menu, display settings, and the search bar where users type in their word query. The next part is the search result list. This section displays the words related to the user’s search. Clicking on a word on the list shows the meaning, pronunciation, synonyms, and other information related to the word selected. Oxford Advanced Learning Dictionary 8 also provides an image databank to provide users with a graphic representation of certain words.
