MSN BackUp

Leonardo Bai (Freeware)

MSN BackUp is a secure data recovery application that backs up the data of Microsoft’s instant messaging client MSN Messenger and Windows Live Messenger. It is particularly designed for MSN Messenger versions 7, 7.5, 8.0, and 8.1. It has simple features with a user-friendly interface that is easy to navigate so it does not require advanced computer skills. This application scans the user’s computer for MSN accounts automatically when launched. After the scan results are displayed, the user can select the account whose information they would like to back up.

MSN BackUp has support for multiple content types, such as display pictures, moods, backgrounds, emoticons, user titles, and winks. Users can see an image preview as well as a flash preview for their winks. The backup process takes only a few seconds to finish. In addition to the backup feature, this program also has a restore utility, which automatically detects the backups that were previously created. This feature lets users restore display pictures, backgrounds, winks, and emoticons quickly and easily.

MSN Messenger, which became Windows Live Messenger, was discontinued by Microsoft following the acquisition of Skype Technologies. Skype provides users with the ability merge their Skype account with a Microsoft account, and so Windows Live Messenger was no longer being used. As a result, MSN BackUp was also discontinued, and no longer receives support from the developer.
