Mortal Kombat

NetherRealm Studios (Proprietary)

Mortal Kombat is a video game franchise 2D and it belongs to the Mortal Kombat series of games. This is the ninth installment and was released on April 2011. In this game, players control a character in a one-on-one fight. It makes use of four buttons on the control for attacks. Each button is linked to a character’s limb. The basic attacks are Foreground Punch, Background Punch, Foreground Kick, Background Kick, and Block. It also uses a super meter that charges to three levels—the longer the attack is charged, the more damage it can inflict to an opponent.

The key feature of this game is its finishing move system, called Fatality. To execute a Fatality and kill the opponent, players are required to perform a specific button-pressing sequence. Each character in the game has a set of signature moves that effectively kills their opponents. Fatalities reflect the character’s storyline or special abilities. A Fatality move requires certain distances from the two characters in order to work. These distances are:

• Close – executed when the player is positioned right next to the opponent
• Sweep – done when the opponent is one to two steps away
• Far – done when the opponent is at least one jump’s length away
