Microsoft Publisher is a desktop publishing software developed by Microsoft as part of its Microsoft Office software collection. The program is released on December 2012. Compared to the popular Microsoft Word, Publisher focuses on design and page layout, while Word focuses on text processing and proofing. With Microsoft Publisher, users can create and customize various marketing materials including newsletters, brochures, business cards, calendars, and even greeting cards. The program provides preset templates that users may improve on or utilize as is for their publications. Users may also create files from scratch using different tools and effects. After the creation process, users may choose to print out the created materials, print, or export the same.

Microsoft Publisher features different customization tools including text and image tools. Users may customize text using WordArt, fill gradients, colors, and textures. Shadows, effects, and reflections may be added to images, objects, and shapes. Editing and customization is viewable in real time and in true color, allowing for maximum creativity. The program features support for several file formats including DOC, RTF, PUB, TXT, HTML, WPD, and WPS. It offers a more extensive Export support including other file formats like DOCX, PS, XPS, and PDF. Users may also export the document into an image file format, particularly BMP, JPG, and GIF.  Output files may even be shared via email or uploaded online.
