Logitech Media Server is an audio streaming server application developed by Logitech, Inc. It supports Squeezebox digital audio receivers used specifically for streaming audio files on a network to both hardware and software receivers. This allows users to listen to the music library anywhere as long as there is an active connection to the Internet. The application can be used to play different audio formats such as WAV, MP3, Ogg, FLAC, AAC, and more.
Logitech Media Server is compatible with Squeezebox hardware players. It can also work with different music players working on a network like Roku SoundBridge. Aside from hardware devices, the application also supports various software music players such as Apple iTunes. The application comes with a control panel, which can be used to configure different settings of the program. These configuration options are categorized into tabs (i.e. Library, Diagnostics, Information, Account, and Status). Aside from streaming audio, the program can also be used for scanning multimedia files and sending the files to Squeezebox library, broadcasting metadata to the Squeezebox device and multimedia players, creating playlists, managing playlists, and more.
The program’s capabilities can be extended using third-party plugins and server hardware. It can be used on different NAS devices (i.e. Synology Disk Station, QNAP Turbo NAS, NETGEAR ReadyNAS, and more).
