Half-Life 2: Episode One

Valve Corporation (Proprietary)

Half-Life 2: Episode One is a First Person Shooter (FPS) game developed by Valve Corporation and released on June 2006. It is the first episode in a series of episodes released by Valve as a sequel to the Half-Life 2 game series. The game is set in City 17, right after the events of Half-Life 2. It follows the adventures of Gordon Freeman and Alyx Vance as they battle against the Combine, a transhuman race.

Half-Life 2: Episode One gameplay involves a series of levels following a linear timeline. The main players encounter several enemies throughout the game, as well as some allies along the way. Game levels are divided between physics-based puzzle games and combat-oriented challenges. The player status is shown by a heads-up display showing the health, ammunition, and energy status. Gordon’s initial weapon is a Gravity Gun, which makes it possible for Gordon to manipulate objects even from a distance. This is useful in both types of games. Alyx Vance, Gordon’s companion, is designed for cooperative gameplay. Alyx complements Gordon’s actions, even providing cover fire and assisting on some levels.

Half-Life 2: Episode One is the first of three episodes composing the sequel to Half-Life 2. It utilizes the Source game engine, the same with Half-Life 2. It is a single player game. This game is also included in The Orange Box game bundle together with Half-Life 2, Team Fortress, Episode Two, and Portal.
