Grimm's Hatchery

Amaranth Games (Shareware)

Grimm's Hatchery is a pet simulation adventure game developed by Amaranth Games and published by Big Fish. In this game, the player assumes the role of a character whose stepfather was a king. The player learns that the king has died and left the kingdom to the main character’s villainous stepbrother named Lord Boras. However, the will also stated that the protagonist can regain power over the kingdom if he can manage to collect 300,000 gold coins within an 80-day period. In order to achieve this goal, the player must interact with the town’s residents, accomplish missions, and raise magical pets such as purple dragons, Griffonettes, and Icebirds to name a few.

Initially, the player has to pick up valuable items scattered around the town to earn money. On other occasions, the player can receive a reward for finding a special object, which they can also sell instead. Monsters and critters will also begin to appear, so the player must ward them off completely to prevent them from harming the pets. More money can be earned by selling the magical animals’ eggs or by purchasing pets of higher value. Naturally, the pets must also be fed on time to enable them to hatch many eggs. Apart from these tasks, players can also breed new pet species by “zapping” two different animals together.
