Gears Of War

Epic Games (Proprietary)

Gears of War is a third-person shooter initially released in November 2006 as an exclusive console game. A year later, a PC version was released, featuring new content, multiplayer gaming mode, and more campaign levels, among other additional features. Gears of War was considered as the fastest-selling video game in 2006 with over three million copies sold in just ten weeks, and was also famous for being the second-most played Xbox Live game in 2007. It won several "Game of the Year" recognitions since its release, which led to the development and release of three sequels since 2008.

Gears of War follows the adventures of the Delta Squad troops in their attempt to save the remaining human inhabitants of planet Sera. The troops embark on an ongoing war, facing the Locust Horde, the subterranean enemy of humanoids that wreak havoc amongst the humans. Players take on the role of either Marcus Fenix, an ex-convict and former embattled soldier, or Dominic Santiago, the alternate character. As a military-themed video game, players are compelled to come up with strategies in battling against enemies to advance through several scenarios and levels. While a second player may cooperate as an assistant to the main player in offline play, the online mode supports up to eight players.
