fre:ac, formerly called BonkEnc, is an application that converts audio files to different file formats. It supports several audio file formats including WAV, FLAC, AAC, MP3, and WMA. All the encoders are included in the application and are multi-core optimized so that users can convert files at optimum speeds. fre:ac supports batch processing. An entire folder of audio files can be converted without changing the structure of the files and folders.

In addition to converting audio files, the program also comes with a CD ripper for transferring songs from an audio CD to the computer’s hard drive. The CD ripper has a freeDB and CDDB database support to search for the song information before ripping. This eliminates the need to manually type in song information before ripping the CD. The application also supports Unicode, which displays characters from different language sets correctly.

fre:ac’s interface is simple and intuitive. Beginners will be able to operate the program with the tools provided on the main window. In addition, the application offers advanced settings for advanced computer users. The program can be installed in a hard drive or USB stick so that it can be used with other systems. fre:ac saves the user’s settings so that the program is ready to use when plugged in another computer.
