Far Cry is a first-person shooter video game that was initially released in 2004. Players assume the role of Jack Carver, a former US Special Forces operative. Carver is stuck in an archipelago and must look for a female journalist. There are different landscapes in the game including mines, rain forests, canyons, and volcanic forests. Far Cry is created with the CryEngine and PolyBump mapping that creates dynamic lighting, and advanced environments for the game.
Players can make use of the surroundings in order to hide from enemies. The enemies in the game react to the actions done by the player. Players can check the location of enemies on the mini map. There are plenty of items that can be used by the player including binoculars for hearing conversations. Users can point the binoculars at the direction of enemies who are talking and listen in on the conversation. There is also a wide variety of grenades and weapons to use. Players must accomplish tasks in the game to progress through the story. Objectives are presented in different ways.
Far Cry also has a multiplayer feature that has three modes – Deathmatch, Assault, and Team Deathmatch.
