Fallout is a role-playing game that was first released in 1997. The game is set in the 22nd century with a post-apocalyptic environment. Players visit different locations in the game world and encounter creatures and complete tasks. There are mini missions where players can gain experience points and karma to level up the character. The actions of the player can ultimately determine the outcome of the whole game. Different actions also open up different opportunities in the game.

Players can develop their characters by focusing on four different categories. These are traits, perks, attributes, and skills. One of the features of the game is the SPECIAL system. SPECIAL (Strength, Perception, Endurance, Charisma, Intelligence, Agility, Luck) are the attributes given to each of the characters in the game. Whenever a character levels up, points can be distributed among the attributes to improve the player’s skills. Some skills can also be improved with training.

The game’s combat is turn-based. In each turn, players can choose actions to do until all of the points have been used up. Players can use up to two weapons during combat and can switch between the weapons during the game. Players can also recruit an unlimited number of NPCs to aid them during the course of the game.
