Cutthroats

Cutthroats is a computer game in the interactive fiction genre. The story takes place in Hardscrabble, a fictional island. This particular place was, for years, a good seaport where fish was abundant. However, the fishing industry was wiped out during the 1920s. The area then became a haven for hard-living criminals and other ne’er-do-wells.

The main character in this game is a diver who loots through shipwrecks to find valuables to sell. A former friend, Hevlin, told him of the location of two shipwrecks. The location of these two shipwrecks was on the map Hevlin had in his hands. Hevlin gives the map to the main character. Soon the player attempts to find the shipwrecks to obtain the treasures within. Many characters offer assistance throughout the story and the course of the game. Not all of these characters, however, can be trusted. The player is now tasked to find out which of them should be trusted and which should not. Only after following the advice of the right characters will the story progress. Failure to do so will lead to an unfortunate ending. Of the two sunken ships that can be explored, one of them has treasures while the other is empty.
