Cubase Essential for Windows is a starter program for Cubase which is an audio workstation program developed by Steinberg Media Technologies and released on December 2009. The program enables users to compose, edit, record, and mix audio tracks. The program features basic audio composition tools, as well as a Project Assistant Dialog, a Jog/Scrub Wheel, and an Amp Simulator. Cubase Essential for Windows enables users to experience how to work with Cubase without getting the whole software package. It is great for new users who are hesitant to try out a new product.

Cubase Essential for Windows features a Project Assistant Dialog tool that assists users when creating new projects, opening created projects, and performing the basic functions of Cubase Essential. The interface features the Category Bar showing 6 buttons—Recent, Recording, Scoring, Production, Mastering, and More.  Below the Category Bar is the Template list showing default templates, as well as any custom templates created by the user. Templates can be renamed, edited, and deleted. Projects are stored in a specific folder location that users may configure. Users can choose to set a default location or set the program to prompt for a specific location for every instance. The program features a Save as Template dialog box with a Tag Editor section enabling users to configure templates to be assigned to default template categories.
