Clive Barker's Undying is a psychological horror game in the first-person perspective based on Clive Barker’s horror novel of the same name. Set in 1920s Ireland, the story follows the paranormal adventurer named Patrick Galloway and his investigation of the mysterious events at the estate of his old friend, the character Jeremiah Covenant. Covenant informs Galloway of his fears: that his family bears an evil curse and his deceased family members—four siblings—have become victims. As the story progresses, the player (as Galloway) come across supernatural elements and ferocious, horrific creatures.
To fight the evil creatures, Galloway is equipped with both weapons and supernatural powers. As the protagonist, Galloway can wield weapons in his left hand while casting spells with his right. Some of the weapons in Galloway’s arsenal are the following:
• Gel’ziabar Stone – players can use this to show hidden images and messages. As a weapon it can emit a pulse that knock back enemies. The stone can also add power to spells cast.
• Guns – players can choose between a six-shooter revolver or a double-barreled shotgun. For ammunition, silver bullets and phosphorus shells are used. A spear gun is also available, which functions as a sniper rifle.
• Phoenix Egg – players can use this to shoot a phoenix towards enemies.
Galloway can also cast spells for attacks, show hidden messages, remove curses, and protect himself from attacks.
