Blumind is a free application that is used in the creation of mind maps. The latter are diagrams which revolve around a central goal or idea, and that have subconcepts and elements which radiate outward. The program can also view, edit, and print items that are found in mind maps. Anything can be plotted such as one’s breakfast diet, quantum physics, sewage systems, and philosophies. Concepts which may be studied by parts and centralized may be mapped by the program. Maps can be exported and saved using formats such as GIF, PNG, SVG, Text, JPEG, BMP, TIFF, and FreeMind.
Blumind consists of numerous themes and graphical tools which can be used by any type of computer user. It has a browser “look” to it and has its own Menu button, sidebars, and tabs. Tabs are not able to open Web pages, only new documents. Property sidebar configuration options include color modifications for backgrounds, fonts, and objects. A Themes menu contains preset color schemes. Initially, a Central Topic has to be specified by a user in order to use the program. After which Subtopics levels may be added. Submenus are also displayed by a list in the sidebar. Additional Icons, Notes, and Progress Bars can also be incorporated and labeled subsequently. Map elements can be expanded and collapsed via the program’s Folding menu. Other program features include various chart layouts, image and export formats, and multiple language support, among others. The program can be used in project, education, and business environments.
