Audio Dedupe is an application that sorts through audio files and recognizes duplicates, even if these have different file extensions. This utility is able to read various audio formats, including MP4, WAV, WMA, OGG, and FLAC. What this program does is to “listen” to an audio file to determine its sound and structure and compare it to other audio files. This program analyzes tracks with a default 70% similarity setting, which can be adjusted to narrow down the results. Increasing the similarity setting will make the program look for files with a sound structure that is exactly the same as the reference audio file.
After scanning the system, the program will list all of the similar files in groups and showing file details such as the length, bitrate, and file size. The listed files with a lower bitrate, shorter duration, and smaller size can be marked automatically and deleted from the hard drive. Removal can also be done manually. The deletion of duplicate files results in providing the user with more disk space. Alternately, the user can choose to move the duplicates to another location such as a custom folder.
Audio Dedupe comes with a built-in audio player so users can preview the listed duplicates prior to transfer or removal.
