LibreOffice 5.0.3 (32-bit)

The Document Foundation (Freeware)

LibreOffice is an office suite program initially released in January 25, 2012. Developed by The Document Foundation, the LibreOffice application is the descendant of the OpenOffice.org, where the program was based. The program is designed to work with other main office suites, such as the Microsoft Office.

The LibreOffice is consists of 6 main components – Writer, Calc, Impress, Draw, Base, and Math. The Writer component is the program’s word processor. It has similar file support and functions to WordPerfect and Microsoft Word. It offers both basic and advanced word processing/text editor functionalities. The Calc component is the program’s spreadsheet. It works similarly to Lotus 1-2-3 or Microsoft Excel. But, it also offers unique functionalities like a system used for defining series of graphs automatically according to the available data. The program also has a presentation component called Impress. This component works like the Microsoft PowerPoint and can be used for preparing presentations and templates. The LibreOffice also has a vector graphics editor called Draw. It works like the Microsoft Visio and CorelDRAW. The program’s Base component is a database management application similar to the Microsoft Access, which can be used for creating and managing databases and preparing reports and forms. The program also offers a unique component called Math. This component is used for constructing and editing mathematical formulae. Mathematical formulas constructed through the Math tool can be used in other LibreOffice Suite like Calc.

Designed to work with major office suites, the LibreOffice program can export/import files in multiple file formats. Its standard file format is OpenDocument Format (ODF). However, it supports formats compatible with Microsoft Office.
