S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call Of Pripyat

GSC Game World (Proprietary)

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat is a video game developed and released by GSC Game World in 2009. This game is the third game under the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. video game series. This game incorporates an open world, first-person shooter genre in its game play. First-person shooter (FPS) refers to an action-type game genre where players engage other players or in-game characters in combat using a variety of ranged and melee weapons. S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat also utilizes an open-world game play where players are free to roam and explore the game environment. Open-world games, also known as “sandbox” or “free-roaming” games allow the player to choose how to handle the game’s objectives.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat is based in a post-apocalyptic world in an alternate reality after the events following the Chernobyl Nuclear Disaster. The game itself is set in the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant Exclusion Zone, which is divided into three parts: Zaton, Yanov, and the city of Pripyat. The player assumes control of the game’s protagonist, Major Alexander Degtyarev as he investigates the events following a failed military operation in the exclusion zone. S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat features several factions that the player will encounter during the game. These are the: Military, Loners, Bandits, Duty, Freedom, Mercenaries, Monolith, and Ecologists. Some factions can assist the player by providing information through rumors and side quests, while other factions are openly hostile. Mutants are the main enemies in the game and will attack the player on sight.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat features a variety of weapons and equipment that can be acquired by purchasing them from traders or by picking them up in different areas in the environment. Weapons become damaged from continued use and become unusable once broken. Broken weapons are denoted by a red HUD (Heads Up Display) icon on the game screen. Players take damage from enemy attacks and from bleeding. Bleeding is a sustained damage acquired from lethal attacks from enemies. This can be cured by using a health pack. Players can increase their chance of survival by obtaining better armor and increasing their defense stats. An event called an “Emission” randomly occurs within the game environment. This is signaled by the ground shaking before emitting large amounts of energy on the surface. If this occurs, the player must seek shelter and inject a drug on himself that will put him in a temporary sleep. Failure to do so would result on the character getting killed. S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat has multiple endings that are determined by the player’s actions within the game.
