GIMPshop

Scott Moschella (Freeware)

GIMPshop is a graphics application developed by Scott Moschella. It was released on May 2006 with the intent to mimic the functionality of more popular commercially available image editing programs. It was a modification of the open source image-editing program GIMP. GIMP stands for GNU Image Manipulation Program.

GIMPshop features advanced image editing functions like layers, filters, masks, channels, and even patterns. Users can manipulate images, touch up blemishes, and even make photo creations from scratch using different tools like the brush and line tool. Image manipulation is available both in color and in black and white. The program also supports several image file formats including JPEG, GIF, TIFF, and PNG, among many. It even recognizes PSD file formats. The program also offers the Cage Transform tool, which allows users to control and warp specific parts of the image without disturbing images outside of the Cage.

GIMPshop comes with tablet support using a new widget. This allows users to manipulate images using a stylus and tablet. The graphical user interface offers support for multi-window mode and single window mode. It mimics the GUI of Photoshop with the dark grey workspace, the taskbar on the left panel, and task panes that may be docked on any side of the window. The program also features tabbed workspace mode, with all active windows shown in tabs at the top.
