Sierra On-Line Internet Gaming System

Sierra On-Line (Proprietary)

Sierra On-Line Internet Gaming System or Sierra Entertainment is the brainchild of Ken and Roberta Williams. Founder Ken Williams was the programmer for the very first text/graphic adventure game that has been made, while Roberta was responsible for “The Wizard and the Princess.” The company was founded in 1979 in Simi Valley, California.

This system consists of mostly graphic adventure games, the very first of which came out in the ‘80s. One of the most popular games from Sierra On-Line is King’s Quest.

Some of the very first titles from the Sierra On-Line Internet Gaming System are Jawbreaker, Missile Defense, High-Res Soccer, Hi-Res Football, Threshold, the Official Frogger, Aquatron, Sammy Lightfoot, Mine Shaft, Creepy Corridors, Police, Quest, King Quest, and Quest for Glory. Much later, the following game titles came out: Alien Legacy, The Last Dynasty, NASCAR Racing 1, Outpost, and Lords of the Realm

Sierra On-Line Internet Gaming System figures quite importantly in the entire history of video games as a pioneer in the industry. In 1996, the Sierra On-Line Internet Gaming System completed a merger with Cendant Software. The Sierra On-Line brand name was eventually retired in the year 2001 just a few years after the company and all its affiliates were acquired in 1999 by Havas, S.A.
