Adobe Photoshop CS5 is a photo editing software developed and manufactured by Adobe Systems. This version was released on April 12, 2010. The Adobe Photoshop CS5 program is developed to handle complex photography and digital image editing.

The Photoshop CS5 program features Photoshop Plug-ins, which are used to extend and enhance the functionality of the program. Some plug-ins are developed by Adobe Systems like the Adobe Camera Raw plug-in. However, most plug-ins are developed by third-party companies. Photoshop Plug-ins comes in various types. These are import, export, automation, selection, color correction, adobe camera raw, and filter.

The Photoshop CS5 software offers various image-editing tools. These tools are categorized under drawing; cropping and slicing; selection; retouching; measuring and navigation; typing; healing tools; and painting. Most of the common tools from earlier versions are still available in the Photoshop CS5 version. But, new features and tools are also introduced in the Adobe Photoshop CS5 version including Refine Edge, Bristle Tips, Mixer Brush, Content-Aware Fill, and Puppet Warp. Other features were also added to this version as requested by the public. These are automatic image straightening, the Rule-of-Thirds cropping tool,, saving 16-bit images as JPEG and color pickup.

The extended version of the Photoshop CS5 program offers the same tools and features as with the standard version plus additional features in video editing and 3D. It offers a New Materials Library to provide more choices like Glass, Cork, and Chrome. The Photoshop CS5 Extended version also features a Shadow Catcher tool, which is used to improve 3D images and objects. As for motion graphics/video, the Photoshop CS5 Extended tools can be used with all the frames in a video series.

The Adobe Photoshop CS5 and CS5 Extended applications are both available in Adobe’s online store, Adobe direct sales and Adobe System’s authorized resellers. Both can be used as a stand-alone program or as part of the Adobe Creative Suite 5.
