Inkscape 0.48.2

inkscape.org (Open Source)

Inkscape is a vector graphics editor application written in the C++ programming language. It was initially released in December 2003. The program provides users basic drawing features similar to that offered by other graphics editors, such as CorelDraw, Adobe Illustrator, and Freehand. It can be used to create icons, web graphics, logos, and other creative outputs. Some of the basic tools offered by the application include pencil and pen tools, rectangles, ellipses, stars and polygons, and spirals. Users can also create 3D objects with the 3D Box tool. In addition, there is also a Text tool that supports Unicode characters.

Users can also manipulate objects in Inkscape. Each object included in the drawing can be manipulated and transformed by moving, skewing, rotating, and scaling. The transformations can be manually set in the Transform box. The style of each object can be changed, too. Some of the attributes of an object that can be changed are the color, stroke fill, stroke style, and the opacity. There are also filters included in the program.

Inkscape has its own rendering engine for creating graphics (libnr). It can render objects that are zoomed up to 256 times. Alternative rendering options are available, too (outline, no filter viewer). The program supports file formats, such as TIFF, PNG, JPEG, and PNG.
