Microsoft Corporation (Proprietary)

Microsoft Word is a word processing application developed by Microsoft and released in 1983 as part of the now-discontinued Microsoft Works Suite. Microsoft Word is one of the key programs comprising Microsoft Office Suite. It features powerful document tools enabling users to create text documents of various formats and styles. Users may even create documents by using pre-installed templates. The program allows users to add tables, pictures, clip-arts, graphs, and other objects.

Microsoft Word features referencing tools essential for any writer or student. This allows users to add footnotes, endnotes, citations, captions, and citation or entry marks. The program also enables users to create a table of contents, a table of figures, or a bibliography. MS Word supports different citation styles including APA, Chicago, MLA, and Turabian, among many.  Document page layout can be altered as to themes, margins, page size, and orientation. Users may customize watermarks, page color, and page borders. The program also offers Review functions including spelling and grammar checking, dictionary, and thesaurus support. Aside from that, the program provides translation service for supported languages. Users may also add comments or balloons when editing or revising text. Users may also activate the Track Changes function to highlight the changes made by another user. Documents may also be tagged as Protected, Rejected, or Accepted.

Microsoft Word’s export options include saving to supported file formats like TXT, DOC, DOCX, RTF, and PDF, and sharing via email or printing.
