Cultures2 is an economics-based strategy game developed by the company Funatics Development. Also known as Cultures 2: the Gates of Asgard, this game allows players to build a Viking village and enhance it by putting up as many bases as possible. At the beginning of the game, the player is provided with a few civilians or occasionally, Vikings, to perform a variety of tasks such as building, hunting, and resource gathering. However, new job options will open up as the civilians gain experience in their assigned tasks.

In this game, the player takes on the role of Bjarni, the leader of a nomadic Viking tribe. Bjarni predicts that the fabled Midgard Serpent will emerge and cause destruction to the world. It is Bjarni and his tribe’s mission to prevent this from happening. The tribe’s journey to Baghdad consists of 11 missions, which feature multiple subquests. In each mission, the player must be able to establish a functioning and prosperous village. Menial jobs and professions need to be assigned to the members of the tribe individually, and as the population of the village increases, the player must also keep track of Vikings who lose their way. Since some Vikings become soldiers, combat is also part of the gameplay. The player can have builders construct barracks and equip the soldiers with weapons.
