Paint.NET 4.0.6

dotPDN LLC (Freeware)

Paint.NET is a raster graphics editor application developed by dotPDN LLC. It was originally written by Rick Brewster and was first released in May 6, 2004. The program is mainly written in C# and its primary image format is .PDN. Paint.NET’s user interface is designed to look like the original MS Paint program as much as possible. This is to make it easier for users to switch from MS Paint to Paint.NET.

The program features layers found in most professional image manipulation software giving users a more professional output. The layer panel offers more tools for managing layers. Here, users can add, delete, merge, duplicate and import layers. Several editing tools are also available in this program. It also has a History window that allows you to change, undo and redo certain actions. The limitation of the history is based on the disk space available.

Tools are grouped in different tabs – Image, Adjustments, Effects, Utilities and Window. The Image tab offers settings for rotating, canvassing and resizing images. Tools like Auto-Level, Black & White, Curves, Brightness/Contrast, Hue/Saturation/Posterize and Sepia are found in the Adjustments tab. Paint.NET can also be used for adding effects. The Effects tab provides different tools grouped into several categories such as Noise, Distort, Artistic, Blurs, Stylize and Render. Other tools available in this program include Magic Wand, Text Editor, Zoom, Recolor and Clone Stamp.
