Cryptic Disk 3.1.41.665

EXLADE, Inc. (Shareware)

Cryptic Disk uses disk encryption to safeguard confidential data kept in computer media. Disk encryption is a technological method for protecting information that converts data to make them unreadable or difficult to decipher for unauthorized users. This application encrypts each bit of data found in a disk or disk volume. It covers every aspect of the disk, including its directories. As a result, outsiders cannot determine even the name, size, or content of any file. Such technology is highly useful especially for portable gadgets like thumb drives and laptop computers that have a greater likelihood of being stolen or lost.

One of the strengths of disk encryption is that it is able to protect data whether or not the operating system is active. Thus, even if data is directly read from the hardware itself or through a different OS, it is secure from prying eyes. Cryptic Disk uses cascade encryption, meaning multiple sequential algorithms. It supports XTS, in which algorithms operate on fixed-length groups of bits, called blocks, to ensure greater information security. Additionally, the program uses a 2944-bit encryption key size, making it nearly invincible against keyloggers and password attacks. Using the most sophisticated algorithms such as AES, Blowfish, Serpent, Twofish, and CAST6, the defense it provides for data is carried out in real time without compromising PC performance. The only way to read encrypted data is by entering the password or using key files known only to the users.
