Space Empires V

Malfador Machinations (Shareware)

Space Empires V is a turn-based strategy game that was developed by Malfador Machinations. Released in 2006, it offers a detailed version of the 4x model, otherwise known as ‘Explore, Expand, Exploit, Exterminate’. The gameplay is very similar to its predecessor, Space Empires IV, although this makes use of 3D graphics. The goal of this game is for players to take over new worlds. In order to do this, they must rule over an alien race, and utilize their resources to come up with new technologies. This will enable the players to build high-tech vessels that will help them colonize other civilizations. Since other alien races are trying to colonize other worlds as well, players will have to devise strategies in which to defeat them. They can choose to wage war on rival races, or conquer them through diplomacy or trade.

Space Empires V provides players with the opportunity to build and design their races from the ground up. They can also build highly-customized ships and carriers by choosing from a wide selection of hulls. As opposed to the previous versions, this game now requires players to choose a type of government as well as a social paradigm in order to gain research points. The initial technology used by these research points, but more options become accessible as new technologies are developed.
