Assassins Creed II

Ubisoft Montreal (Proprietary)

Assassins Creed II is an action-adventure video game developed by Ubisoft and released in November 2009. The game offers a historical theme with stealth and open world features. The game follows on Assassins Creed I whose protagonist Desmond Miles took on the genetic memories of assassin, Altair, through the Animus. This game starts from Desmond’s escape with former Abstergo Industries employee Lucy Stillman only to find himself entering a more advanced version of the former, Animus 2.0. This time, he will be taking on the genetic memories of nobleman Ezio Auditore da Firenze. Ezio becomes an assassin following the murder of his family. Ezio’s actions are controlled by the player directly.

Assassins Creed II, much like its prequel, features open world gameplay and follows a non-linear storyline. The game is set in fifteenth-century Italy spanning Florence, Venice, San Gimignano, Tuscany, and Forli. Compared to Animus, Animus 2.0 provides Ezio with more background information on in-game elements through its extensive database. The player is completely free to do anything including run, walk, climb, and even swim. The game also features Eagle Vision, which enables Ezio to identify landmarks and people, even when in motion. In-game health regenerates if only minor wounds are sustained. However, for grievous wounds, the game requires Ezio to buy medicine from a street-side doctor. This game also features a young Leonardo da Vinci who creates new weapons for the assassin using the Codex pages given to him by the previous assassin, Altair. Aside from da Vinci, other historical figures present in the game are Niccolo Machiavelli, Pope Alexander VI, and Caterina Sforza.
