X-Lite

CounterPath Corporation (Shareware)

X-Lite is a VoIP SIP-based softphone developed and distributed by CounterPath Corporation. It utilizes the Session Initiation Protocol that combines video calls, voice calls, and instant messaging in a single software. It also offers a call-recording function that allows users to record calls from voice or video calls.

The program’s interface is intuitive yet straightforward. The interface looks like the traditional cellular phone with all the working buttons (i.e. mute and redial) and the 10 numbers. This allows users to dial a phone number just like a normal phone, as well as access the address book. The program’s address book can store unlimited contacts. Users may also organize the contacts and sort it according to categories (i.e. work, friends, and family). The program’s video screen offers high-compression video calls. Its center display also looks like the LCD display of a traditional phone that offers call status information while making voice or video calls. It even shows a Message Waiting Indicator whenever there is another person sending a message.

Like a typical cellphone, the program also features a call history that displays a list of received, dialed, and missed calls. Three-party conferencing is possible as well. Other available features include automatic detection and configuration of video/audio devices, support for different audio and video codecs, automatic selection of the proper codecs, and 3261 SIP standard compliance, among others.
