Doom 95

id Software (Freeware)

Doom 95 is a Doom game launcher specially developed for the Windows 95 operating system. Doom is a first person shooter game with science fiction and horror components. It was developed in 1993 and released for the DOS platform. However, with the release of Windows 95, id Software developed the Doom 95 to enable Doom gamers to launch the game with the updated operating system. Doom 95 was released on August 1996.

Doom 95 offers updated features that are lacking from the Doom DOS versions. Doom 95 enables users to play the game in higher resolutions of 640 x 480, 640 x 400, and 320 x 240, instead of the default 320 x 200. Doom 95 also enables users to play the game in both Full screen and windowed mode. The Original Doom may only be played in full screen mode. Doom 95 also features higher running speeds through Direct X. Doom 95 also features a launcher that enables patch wad option configurations, multiplayer settings, and player controls. It also features a higher visplane limit than the DOS based Doom which enables the developers to create more complicated game maps. Doom 95 also features exclusive cheat codes and combos that offer better gameplay to the original doom. One such cheat code allows gamers to kill off all the monsters on a given level. Doom 95 is available for Doom, Doom II, Ultimate Doom, and Final Doom.
