RollerCoaster Tycoon

Chris Sawyer Productions (Proprietary)

RollerCoaster Tycoon is a single-player simulation game developed by Chris Sawyer Productions. It was released in 1999. The game focuses on simulating amusement park construction and management. The main idea of the game is to finish a set of preset situations by constructing and maintaining amusement parks. Players have the ability to select different types of roller coasters. Creating a customized roller coaster is possible also.

The game’s goal is not only to construct an amusement park. The player must also ensure guest satisfaction by balancing their preference. Since the preference of the visitors varies, the amusement park must cater the needs of all types of visitors. When constructing customized rollercoaster, the player must also make sure that the ride is safe. Implementing regular ride inspection time is also an important aspect of the game. This prevents rollercoaster crash. When a crash happens, visitors riding on that ride can die, which could negatively affect the park’s popularity and rating. Certain aspects of the game can be modified. For instance, players can change the landscaping and geography of the park to help enhance the park’s attractiveness. Aside from the rides, players must also ensure that the other needs of the visitors are met. Players can construct food stalls, information kiosks and bathrooms to meet the needs of the guests.

The game includes 21 scenarios. Some of the scenarios are locked at first. It can only be unlocked once the player completed the previous scenario. Completing scenarios requires the player to meet certain objectives in the game.
