Age of Mythology

Ensemble Studios (Proprietary)

Age of Mythology is an RTS video game developed by Ensemble Studios. It was first released on October 30, 2002 in North America. The game is based on Norse, Greeks and Egyptians mythology. As an RTS game, gameplay mainly involves creating buildings, gathering resources, training units and defeating opposing armies. These actions help the player attain the goal of conquering rival civilizations and towns. Players can gather four types of resources – gold, food, favor and wood. Each type can be used to perform other tasks.

Like the Age of Empires game, players progress in the game through “Ages” (from Archaic Age to Mythic Age). Reaching a certain Age unlocks other technologies and units. The game features three playable civilizations – Egyptians, Greeks and Norse. Each civilization features three main gods such as Odin and Zeus. Major gods are selected prior to a game. Reaching a new Age also enables the player to select a minor god like Aphrodite. The gods gives the player additional myth units, technologies and god power.

The game can be played in single player or multiplayer mode. The single player mode is campaign-based. It follows the story of Arkantos and his journey to hunt Cyclops. The multiplayer mode can be played through IP or LAN connection or through ESO (Ensemble Studios Online). The multiplayer mode features seven game types – Supremacy, Deathmatch, Lightning, Nomad, King of the Hill, Sudden Death and Conquest.
