Hellgate: London

Hellgate: London is an action role-playing game first released in 2007 in North America. The game is set in the year 2038 in London. Some of the elements available in the game resemble those found in rougelikes. In this game, the player chooses a character from one of the six available classes, which are divided into three Factions – Hunters (Engineers and Marksmen), Templars (Blademasters and Guardians) and Cabalists (Evokers and Summoners). Players can play in three different levels of difficulty – normal, elite or hardcore.

There are two game modes in Hellgate: London – Single player and Multiplayer:

• Single player – This mode features 5-act storyline. When these acts are completed, players can restart the game in a different level of difficulty. Players can also now use Elite characters after completing the acts.
• Multiplayer– Initially, the game centered on cooperative PvE and solo combats in multiplayer mode. However, players can also duel. A free PvP mode is also available for players who subscribed to the game. Organizing a team player is also possible in the safe zones. These safe zones are located in the old Underground stations.

Weapons and items are two elements important in the game as well. The powers of the weapons are based on the character’s statistics instead of its aiming skills. Players can do five damage types to other players. These types of damage include Electrical, Spectral, Physical, Fire and Toxic. The game uses a randomized system for the items.
