Need for Speed: Underground 2 is a racing video game that was first released in 2004. It is the sequel to Need for Speed: Underground, which was released the in 2003. Need for Speed: Underground 2 is the eighth title in the Need for Speed series of games. The game has four racing modes, plus four more variations. The main game modes are Circuit, Sprint, Drift, and Drag races. There is also a URL (Underground Racing League) that takes place in closed tracks. In URLs, players race against five opponents. The higher the ranking in the race, the more points are awarded to the player.

Players can get car parts for free from opponents by winning Outrun Races. Outrun Races are one-on-one challenges, wherein the player can choose a route as the setting for the race. The player must outrun the opponent at least 300 meters in order to be named the winner.

In the game, the player is the protagonist in the story. At the start of the game, the player drives a Nissan 350Z. The main objective is to be the top racer in Bayview by beating other drivers in several racing competitions.
