Jing 2.4.10231

TechSmith Corporation (Freeware)

Jing is a screencasting utility program first released on November 28, 2007 by TechSmith Corporation. It requires users to sign up an account before being able to use its features. The program has two main functions – capture screenshots and record screencasts videos. As a tool used for capturing screenshots, the application quietly sits on the desktop and always ready to capture the screen anytime. It can capture a desktop’s pane, region or a window with a single click. Captured screenshots can also be marked up with an arrow or highlight. Adding picture captions or text box is also possible.

Jing is also used for recording screencast videos. It can record everything that occurs on the selected desktop region or window. The recorded screencasts are in SWF formats. However, the recorded videos are limited to 5 minutes only. Aside from recording desktop movements, the program can also record commentaries or narrations.

Aside from capturing screenshots and screencasts, Jing also provides sharing capabilities. It can be integrated with Camtasia Studio and Snagit, which can be used for recording videos longer than the 5 minute limit. The program also supports Screencast.com. After capturing images or videos, Jing will return an HTML embedded code. This code is generated by Screencast.com that allows the videos and images to be shared on different online websites.
