DivX® Codec for Windows 9

DivXNetworks, Inc. (Freeware)

DivX Codec is an application pack that enables users to play DivX-supported video and audio files using their computer’s media player. This application package is a type of a codec pack developed by DivX. A Codec or coder-decoder is a program that enables users to encode and decode a digital data stream or signal. A codec works by encoding a data stream or signal for transmission over a medium such as an optical disc or via the Internet or for storage and encryption, and then decoding the transmitted data or signal for playback and editing. Codecs make sure that a particular media signal or transmission cannot be accessed or edited by a user who does not possess a similar codec device. Codecs are primarily used in video conferencing, streaming media, and video editing applications. DivX Codec works by integrating the user’s media player to be capable of encoding, encrypting, and decoding media files supported by DivX. This application pack only requires installation and works almost automatically through the user’s default media player device.

DivX Codec has two types. First type is the MPEG-4 Part 2 or MPEG-4 Visual, which utilizes the discrete cosine transform compression standard in delivering media files. This codec type is known for delivering low quality and low-resolution video files in a high definition output device. This feature makes this codec type useful for surveillance videos such as CCTV and surveillance videos. The next codec type is the H.264 or MPEG-4 AVC, which is a standard video compression format for recording and streaming media. In contrast to MPEG-4 Part 2/MPEG-4, this codec type is used to deliver high-definition videos over a high-definition device making it the preferred format for movies and entertainment media. This codec type is adopted to be the standard format for Blu-ray discs for its capability to deliver high-definition video with a moderate compression rate.
