Windows Sidebar or Windows Desktop Gadgets is a desktop widget engine that is included in Windows Vista and Windows 7 operating system. The gadgets that come with the application are displayed on the desktop for easy access to tools that are often used on the computer. It displays the time, news headlines, notes, and a photo slideshow. Users can also add additional gadgets, such as a calendar, CPU meter, weather report, stock report, and mini games.

The gadgets on the desktop can be organized in different ways. They can be attached to the sidebar or they can also float on the desktop. They can be placed anywhere on the desktop simply by dragging and dropping. The sidebar can also be minimized to the system tray. It can be brought up again by clicking on the Windows Sidebar icon. Gadgets can be removed or added from the sidebar. To add a new gadget, right click on the sidebar and click on ‘Add Gadgets’. Double click the gadget to make it appear on the sidebar. To remove a gadget, right click on it and click on ‘Close Gadget’. Windows Sidebar can be displayed on the left or right side of the desktop. It also supports multiple monitors.
