BitTorrent, Inc. (Shareware)

BitTorrent is a peer-to-peer file sharing application developed and maintained by BitTorrent, Inc and Bram Cohen. This peer-to-peer application is used for sharing files using the BitTorrent protocol. It was initially released in 2001 and was the first peer-to-peer client program written for the BitTorrent protocol.

Various media files, such as movies, music, and games may be downloaded using this application. It has a built-in search field that can be used to search torrent files within the program. The BitTorrent program also allows batch download of files.

Download and upload information is displayed on the program’s main window to see how much data is being downloaded and uploaded by each user. The program also has a recovery scheme that checks all the downloaded data after an unexpected shutdown of the system. Detailed graphs and health statistics of the downloaded media files are also displayed.

This peer-to-peer program also features Bandwidth Limiter that can be used to limit the upload and download bandwidths. Selective file downloading is also available wherein users can select certain files from a torrent file consisting of multiple files to be downloaded.

The BitTorrent application supports Distributed Hast Table (DHT), Micro Transport Protocol (uTP), NAT Port Mapping Protocol (NAT-PMP), Universal Plug and Play (UPnP), Multi-Torrent Interface with Queuing and many more.

The BitTorrent application is available in two versions: BitTorrent Free and BitTorrent Plus. The BitTorrent Plus offers more features than the BitTorrent Free including protection against viruses, more formats, secure remote access and file conversion.
