AVG is a series of anti-virus and security software for various platforms. The software was developed by AVG Technologies, formerly known as Grisoft. AVG stands for ‘Anti-Virus Guard’, the first product released by Grisoft in 1992. A number of products are available from the developer. These are suitable for computers running on Windows 2000 onwards. Versions for Linux, Mac OS X and FreeBSD are also available.

Identity Protection, AVG Anti-Virus plus Firewall, AVG Anti-spyware, AVG Anti-Rootkit, AVGADMIN, and AVG Anti-Virus.

A monitoring tool is included in newer versions of AVG. This tool warns the user when Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, or Internet Explorer is consuming too much memory. A pop-up warning appears at the bottom of the screen and asks if the user wants the browser to be restarted.

AVG also has a pending patent on the LinkScanner Technology, a real-time updated protection from downloads. LinkScanner provides safety ratings alongside link pages in search results to ensure safety when browsing.
